Infos for GMC 2025

Grischa Muni Challenge is back in Valbella!

What is Grischa Muni Challenge (GMC)?

The GMC is a multi-day mountainunicycle event in the Swiss Alps. Every day the next day's destination is announced in the evening before. The teams then plan their routes independently. They start together in the morning and the riders then have a certain amount of time to reach the destination on their route. It's not about reaching the goal as quickly as possible, but about riding as much altitude and distance as possible in the given time. Cable cars and trains may also be used. The routes are recorded with GPS and points are awarded according to the distance  and the altitude difference that has been ridden. If a team reaches the goal late, points will be deducted. The team with the most points wins.

Dear team captains, dear participants of the Grischa Muni Challenge,

Please ensure that all team members receive this information.

Soon the legendary Grischa Muni Challenge 2025 will start with you! We from the organisation team have done our utmost to offer you an unforgettable experience and look forward to sharing it with you!

Format: You plan your routes and priorities yourself, there are no guides, so you have the opportunity to decide for yourself how strenuous you want it to be or not, and how silly you want it to be or not. Each evening we will announce the destination for the next day, then you will submit your tour plan for the next day, in discussion with us. There are awards for total climbs/descents/distance, or alternatively for fun special tasks (Quings of the Mountain), so you can also decide what kind of challenge you’d like to focus on 🙂

Arrival: We begin with dinner on Thurs 14 August at 18:30 at the youth hostel Valbella in Lenzerheide. Arriving by public transportation: Postauto to stop Valbella, Posthotel, then ride up the hill a bit. Try not to take the latest connection because all of us won’t fit on one bus ;-) Those arriving by private auto: we suggest parking in Chur (we will organize a shuttle from the last destination to Chur for 15.- per person) then take the Postauto up to Valbella.

Emergency Contacts: Please send us a list with the emergency contacts of all your team members until 1. August latest.

Finish and departure: On Sunday 17 August we finish the GMC with a late afternoon apéro/snack and awards ceremony, then bus transportation back to Chur. If you will use our shuttle from the last destination to Chur, please let us know until 1. of August latest (15.- swiss francs per person)

Take along per person:

  • Health insurance card
  • Emergency contact information
  • Hut sleeping bag (Hüttenschlafsack, sac à viande)
  • Shoes: hiking boots are best for alpine terrain, if you normally use 510s or similar think hard about the best option for you. Some great routes just don’t work with 510s when you have to scramble on foot in some sections.
  • Clothing for (high) alpine terrain (warm clothing, no cotton, rain jacket)
  • Headlamp
  • We recommend becoming a Rega patron, it covers emergency evacuation and goes to a good cause

Take along per team (one or more):

  • At least one mobile phone with mobile internet in Switzerland
  • Download swisstopo app or SchweizMobil (it is then also possible to download the maps for offline use).
  • One device per team that can record GPS data from one day (GPX file, Strava or other trackers), with enough battery power for a full day (powerbank)
  • Tool & repair set
  • First aid kit / Apotheke (hemostatic, painkillers, disinfection, etc.)

Small baggage transport: Each day you can leave us one bag per person with things you don’t need during the day (sleeping items, toiletries, etc). No large things.

Food during the days: Each overnight stay includes dinner and breakfast. You can order lunch packets if you need, the night before, which you pay separately.

Fairplay: There are points and there are awards, because this can be a fun way for muni riders to get together. We have thought a lot about how to make this a good challenge but not too serious. We ask that you all bring that same spirit.

If you have any questions, please contact us. The Informations are also on the website: https://www.ursli.li/gmc-2025/ and we now have an Insta Account: grischa_muni_challenge  please follow us!
We look forward to you!

Please let us know by 1 August:

  • Emergency contacts for each team member
  • Will you take the Chur shuttle bus on 17 Aug (15.- per Person)? How many people?
